The High Court deemed "off shore" processing of asylum seekers to Australia illegal. Julia Gillard is now trying to ammend the Migration Act (law) to enable "off shore" processing to be permitted. Julia wants the Malaysian asylum idea to go ahead. She wants the government of the day, to have the say, in how to deal with the nation's border protection. The government needs the support of the Opposition to get the amendment through parliament.
